Meet AV Vegas Lighting Specialist Casandra Osborn

This week we’re shining a spotlight on one of our newest AV Vegas Superstars, Casandra Osborn.  We’ve clipped here wings and she made her solo flight with the NuWu Marketplace One Year Cannaversary Event.   AV Las Vegas provided Live Sound Equipment for the event and Cas took the bull by the horns from inception to implementation harnessing the power of the GrandMA2 Lighting Console to light this event up!

Just who is this new and valuable addition to or staff?  Here’s a quick Q&A to introduce you.

Q: How long have you been working in the audio-visual and Lighting industry?

A: I have been working in the industry for almost a year and a half now.

Q: What led you to a career in Lighting and Sound?

A: I started doing theater tech my junior year of high school. I continued on with it my senior year here in Vegas. This is where I was first introduced to lighting design and programming. At the end of the year my para-pro, David Baker, told me about the opportunity to intern with a company by the name of AV Vegas. He told me they’d teach me everything I needed to know to survive in the industry.

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your background or education?

A:  I started with them last summer in July. About six months after starting with them I was given the chance to go out on a dance tour. So I went out with some of AV’s equipment with the Velocity Dance Convention. I came back five months later and ended up being introduced to Jane Childs of the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas. I started the lighting portion of the program two weeks later. I took five weeks of the intensive eight week training program. Immediately after my classes ended I was back at work with AV.

Q: Tell me a little bit about the equipment you use for the NuWu One Year Anniversary event?

A:  This is by far the greatest opportunity presented to me to date.  The opportunity to build a light show and program it. Take and do what you want. I was given a 20’x20’x12′ truss structure to work with. I took 16 Martin Mac Auras to use as a stage wash and minimal FX lighting as well as 20 square RGB LEDs to be used as truss toners. I ran and programmed the show off of a grandMA 2 Lite. We loaded in the 12, and the event ran from 12pm – 10pm on the 13. 

Q: What are your goals for the future in this industry?

A: From here I plan to continue with AV as a lighting technician and hopefully do more as a programmer and designer. I want to keep learning as much as I can. The real goal is to be designing and programming shows in venues across the valley within the next couple years.
