When one of the biggest names in comedy hits the stage, every punchline needs to land flawlessly. For Matt Rife’s recent stop on the Stay Golden Tour at the Laughlin Event Center, AV Vegas was on-site to provide full production. Outdoor venues of this scale, complete with sprawling crowds and distant grandstand seating, demand serious audio engineering and technical precision. Our team was ready to ensure every single fan heard every joke loud and clear.
The Laughlin Event Center offers a stunning outdoor backdrop, especially as the sun sets and the stage lights cut through the desert evening. To match the massive visual production—complete with towering LED screens —the audio systems needed to be incredibly impactful.
Powering an outdoor space effectively takes precision and top-tier gear. To achieve seamless audio coverage across the massive audience area, our crew flew 32 JBL A12 line array elements. We paired these with heavy-hitting JBL G28 and JBL S28 subwoofers to provide a rich, full-bodied sound base. The rigging and tuning of the JBL A12s worked perfectly. The system allowed us to push pristine, highly intelligible audio evenly, reaching all the way to the far bleachers without losing clarity. Nobody missed a beat, whether they were in the front row or the back of the grandstands.
On stage, the performers need just as much clarity as the audience. For monitors, we deployed JBL M22s. These wedges sound absolutely brilliant on a large stage, cutting through the atmospheric noise with total ease. We also utilized the Shure Axient AD PSM wireless system to give the talent highly reliable, crystal-clear in-ear mixes.
At the control center, our engineers worked on industry-leading consoles to manage the complex mix. Out at Front of House, we ran the show on a DiGiCo Quantum 338, giving us immense processing power and tactile control over the massive system. Over in monitor world, the team relied on an Avid S6L-24C to keep the stage mix perfectly dialed in throughout the high-energy evening.
